The Acting Chief of Defence Civil Military Cooperation (CDCMC), Air Vice Marshal (AVM) ABC Nweze yesterday played host to a set of Junior Secondary School (JSS) three students of Loyola Jesuit College (LJC) who were on a career excursion to Defence Headquarters (DHQ). The event took place at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre, Abuja. The guided tour was aimed at equipping the students’ first-hand knowledge on the overview of DHQ and the constitutional roles of the Armed Forces of Nigeria and to inspire them in choosing a career in the Military.
AVM Nweze, who represented the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Gabriel Olonisakin, encouraged the students to choose a career in the military which he said is a noble profession, with lots of benefits adding that serving the nation through the military is a patriotic duty. He described the major task of the Armed Forces to include defending Nigeria’s territorial integrity and aid to civil authority. “We have great fulfilment on our part to secure lives and properties. It is our responsibilities to protect the integrity of Nigeria.’’
Earlier in her remark, the College Guardian and Councilor, Reverend Sister Maureen Obineze, who led the students and other staff members, said that it was customary for students of JSS 3 to embark on career excursion to organization like the military, with a view to drive their passion on any profession. She commended the selfless sacrifices of the military towards national security while expressing her appreciation to the CDS for the warm reception accorded the students.
During the excursion, the students were enlightened on the roles and responsibilities of DHQ, its organizational structures, the operational activities of the Armed Forces of Nigeria and a brief career talk in the various services. The students were made to understand the rudiments in the selection process into the various cadres, both in the commissioned and non-commission officers’ cadre. Students were equally told that discipline is the bed rock of the military where they were encouraged to have passion for choose the Armed Forces as a patriotic Nigerians.
