The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Tukur Buaratai, has said that the best and greatest welfare a Commander can give or bestow on its troops is capacity building and development.
He revealed this on Thursday 3 December, 2020 during the graduation ceremony of the Second Edition of Workshop for the Nigerian Army Command schools particularly, Administrative Officers (AOs), bursars and teachers on invigorating professional teaching skills for improved performance in the Nigerian Army (NA) schools.
The COAS, who spoke through his representative and Chief of Policy and Plans (COPP) (Army) Lieutenant General Lamidi Adeosun, stated that since his assumption of office, he has continuously placed emphasis on education, training and human capacity development of not only the personnel but also dependants in pursuit of his vision which is “To have a professionally Responsive Nigerian Army in the discharge of its Constitutional Roles”.
The 4-day workshop titled “Improving Class Teachers Instructional and Professional Skills for Enhanced Students Performance” have been carefully selected and synchronized with the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) vision and drive to enhance professionalism in Nigerian Army Institutions and schools.
He further, said that all efforts were undertaken with the focus of repositioning NA schools nationwide, which is the purpose of the programme.
Furthermore, he emphasized that considering the successes recorded during the First Workshop in September 2020, he did not hesitate to approve for DEVTRAG Ltd to conduct similar training packages for other cadres of administrative and teaching staff. He added that this second edition of the workshop is a demonstration of his desire to reposition the fortunes of NA schools for our children and coming generations.
“There is a clear understanding that the doctrine and principles of education is continuously changing”. “NA schools therefore, cannot afford to either retrogress or stagnant as they must adopt the changes in knowledge base, administration of their institutions and global development”, he said.
It is pertinent to note that, the Second Edition of Workshop for Nigerian schools was facilitated by Development Training Group (DEVTRAG LTD) in collaboration with NARC to consolidate on the gains of the First exercise. Present at the event were the Senior Research Fellows, Directors and Consultants from the Centre as well as the management staff of DEVTRAG Ltd.
