The Nigerian Army Resource Centre (NARC), Abuja today, held Wednesday’s edition of the Weekly Subject Experts’ Briefing at Hall B, TY Buratai Block, NARC, Abuja after the Sallah holidays. Three Subject Experts assigned to cover the State of Israel and Islamic Republic of Iran, North Africa and Turkey and China made their presentations.
The first presentation was by Brigadier General SN Eze, Subject Expert on State of Israel and Islamic Republic of Iran. The presentation discussed Iran’s continued attempts to improve its revenue from exports. In this presentation, Brigadier General SN Eze x-rayed how Iran has been able to improve its annual mining exports by approximately 90% of the exports of the previous year. This improvement was contrasted with the Nigerian mining sector which is believed to be underdeveloped. Issues with illegal mining activities, improper regulation and monitoring and others were discussed with solutions proferred.
The second presentation was by Brigadier General CA Ovbude, Subject Expert on North Africa and Turkey. The presentation was focused in Egypt where 43 persons were injured and two others killed as a result of a Bus crash. The increased spate of killings, deaths and other mishaps that have occurred from car accidents raises a significant security issue which was identified and interrogated. Causes of these incidents and the attempts made by the federal and state governemtns to address these problems were discussed while further measures to be emplaced for better road security and safety were espoused.
The third and final presentation of the day was by Major General KO Ogundele (Rtd), Subject Expert on China. Major General KO Ogundele discussed the Chinese Central Bank’s attempts at addressing the dips in the value of its currency, a relatable position for Nigeria whose currency has been in decline for a number of years. The implications of the constantly dwindling currency value and necessary mitigations were all discussed in the course of the presentation.
Present at the briefing were the Director General, Major General GA Wahab (Rtd), Executive Director, Consult, Nigerian Army Resource Centre, Major General JGK Myam, Director of Research, Professor CBN Ogbogbo and other management staff, Senior Research Fellows and Research Fellows, Consultants, senior officers, and other staff of the Centre.
