Today’s edition of the NARC Weekly Subject Experts’ Presentation was held at Hall C, TY Buratai Block, Nigerian Army Resource Centre, Abuja. Presentations were made by one Senior Research Fellow and one subject expert. They made presentations on current happenings in their areas of coverage, namely: Western Europe including the United Kingdom and United States.
The first presentation was by by Major General AA Tarfa (Rtd), Subject Expert for Western Europe including the United Kingdom. Major General AA Tarfa in his presentation discussed the French Navy’s decision to embrace commercial technology for directed energy and drones. The presentation noted the factors which had necessitated a pivot to commercial manufacturers and the pros and cons of this decision. The general subsequently discussed procurement n the Nigerian Navy, the progress which has been made as well as the challenges faced. He further noted the value which commercial purchase of equipment could bring as well as the need to develop indigenous manufacturing capacity.
The second presentation was made by Brigadier General AA Adanogu, Subject Expert for the United States. In his presentation, he discussed the recent $12billion fund which aims to help nations that seek to adopt gas as an alternate transitional fuel in the push to reduce carbon emissions. Issues surrounding the Nigerian oil and gas sector, climate change, environmental degradation and gas production were the central focus of this presentation and the subsequent discussions.
Present at the briefing were the Director General, Major General GA Wahab (Rtd), Executive Director NARC Consult, Major General JGK Myam, the Director of Research, Prof CBN Ogbogbo and other management staff, Senior Research Fellows and Research Fellows, Consultants, senior officers, and other staff of the Centre.
