Today’s edition of the Nigerian Army Resource Centre (NARC) Weekly Subject Experts’ Presentation was held at Hall C, TY Buratai Block, Abuja. There were three presentations made by the Subject Experts covering Republic of Nigerian and Eastern Europe
The First presentation by Brig Gen AK Egwuagu subject expert for Eastern Europe. His presentation focus on china to act as mediator in Russia’s War with Ukraine. The Chinese leader and also the Ukrainian President Zelensky in a phone call that China envoy will visit Ukraine and other countries to discuss a possible political settlement.
China is the only major government that has friendly relation with Moscow as well as economic leverage, as the biggest buyer of Russian Oil and Gas after the United States. China has pursued a bigger role in global diplomacy as part of a campaign to restore the country in its rightful status as a political and economic leader and build an international order that fovours her interest
In his analysis and Lessons for Nigeria, Gen Egwuagu noted that in the past show of force and use of military might, reigned supreme, countries like Germany, Britain, France, Japan, United states and many other happily got themselves involved in world wars that divested the world.
China embrace diplomacy as against the use of violence or war in resolving disputes despite her enormous military and financial strength to remain relevant, Nigeria need to borrow a leaf from China by adopting diplomacy and leadership role in mediating for political settlements especially in ECOWAS sub-regionand Africa in general this therefore call for policy review as a matter of urgency. He therefore, recommended that Nigeria should disease in rushing into troops in deployment on peace enforcement.
The Second presentation by Brig Gen MF Babayo subject expert for Nigeria. His presentation discussed how will employ overseas Nigerian doctors returning home in military hospitals. A large proportions of doctors based abroad are licensed in Nigeria, indicating that they had completed the medical education in Nigeria before departing beyond the shores of Nigeria.
In his analysis and lessons for Nigeria, Brig Gen MF Babayo noted that the recent survey showed that the UK and USA are the preferred destination, others are Canada, Australia, UAE, Saudi Arabia and South Africa. Nigeria physicians migrated to countries known to welcome foreign trained doctors and most left without Post- Graduate training in Nigeria. He said only about half of the 72,000 doctors registered by the medical dental council of Nigerian (NDCM) in Nigeria are currently practicing.
He recommended that the Nigerian Army should prioritize and increase investment in health sector, infrastructure and processes. He added that government should provide a conducive working environment in other to meet the international standard including better remuneration, increase training opportunities for doctors in Nigerian Army and in Nigeria at large.
