The Nigerian Army Resource Centre (NARC) recorded another milestone recently as it played host to the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Buratai Annual Conference for the year 2020.
The conference, which was aimed at reviewing army operations and successes achieved, had its theme as ‘Human Capacity Development in Sustaining Professionalism and Responsiveness of the Nigerian Army in the Discharge of its Constitutional Roles’.
It was attended by Principal Staff Officers from both the Defence and Army Headquarters, General Officers Commanding, Commanders, Commandants of Army Schools and Training Institutions, Commanding Officers and representatives of other security agencies.
The conference deliberated on important issues bordering on strengthening the Nigerian Army’s strategic relationships with the civil populace and review of the aftermath of the #ENDSARS protest with emphasis on lessons for the Nigerian Army in future internal security operations. It also deliberated on national security challenges and reviewed troops’ welfare, among other issues.
In another development, the Chief of Army Staff received International Military Sports Council’s (CISM) souvenir from the President of Organisation of Military Sports in Africa (OSMA) and Vice President CISM, Nigeria’s senior military officer, Brigadier General Maikano Abdullahi. The senior officer pledged to take military sports to an enviable height on the continent and across the globe.
In his speech during the ceremony, Brigadier General Abdullahi, who is the current Deputy Director Sports at the Defence Headquarters Abuja, promised to join hands with members of the organization to lift the standard of the continent’s military sports body.
It is worthy to note that OSMA is the body that represents Africa on the International Military Sports Council which has as its aim fostering friendship through sports while promoting physical fitness among the armed forces of member states.
On the occasion, Lieutenant General Buratai and the Chief of Policy and Plans (Army), Lieutenant General Lamidi Adeosun, were inducted as Fellows of Nigerian Army Resource Centre.
The high point of the event was the launching of the Third Edition of Nigerian Army Resource Centre’s Journal and the biography of late Lieutenant Colonel Abu Ali titled ‘Courage to the End’ by the Chief of Army Staff on 9th December, 2020. Also launched on the occasion was the Centre’s book titled ‘Issues of Terrorism: Insurgency and Security in Nigeria’. The Chief of Army Staff was assisted by the Chief of Policy and Plans (Army) Lieutenant General Lamidi Adeosun, Director General, Nigerian Army Resource Centre, Major General Ayodeji Wahab (Rtd) and the Executive Director Nigerian Army Resource Centre Consult, Major General Jeleel Ogunlade.
