Today’s edition of the Nigerian Army Resource Centre (NARC) Weekly Subject Experts’ Presentation was held at Hall C, TY Buratai Block, Abuja. There were three presentations made by the Subject Experts covering China and Nigeria.
The first presentation by Maj Gen JA Orokpo (Rtd) subject expert for China. His presentation discussed human trafficking case sparks government response in China. This followed a court judgment jailing 6 people in a high profile of woman trafficking found chained in a remote village. The court said that the woman was abducted from her province in Yunnan and sold to a farmer $600 (N 480,000.00), several factors was noted during the presentation as a factors contributing to the perpetuation of human trafficking in China. Some of them are socio- economic disparities, Gender imbalance and lack of effective birth registration system.
In his analysis and lessons for Nigeria, Gen Orokpo (Rtd) noted that human trafficking in Nigeria is a great issues that possess significant threat to National security, some of which are; Social instability within families and communities lead to social unrest. Therefore there is need to develop and implement poverty elevation programme that promote economic opportunities and Job creation especially in vulnerable Communities. He recommended that the Federal government should enact comprehensive anti-trafficking laws that provide harsh penalties for trafficker.
The second presentation was by Brig Gen MF Babayo subject expert for Nigeria. His presentation focus on Nigerian Government condemns the coup in Niger. A Coup is usually sudden, after forceful illegal typically decisive political change or over drowned of an established order of individual who holds levers of power or control at any level in any context. The Nigerien President Mohammed Bazoum was over drowned in Niamey on Wednesday 26 July 2023 by the Presidential Guards. The Leadership of the Nigerien Arm forces issued a statement on 27 July 2023 sign by the Army Chief of Staff General Abdou Sidikou Issa declear the support for the Coup , Citing the need to preserver the physical integrity of the President and his family and avoid a deathly confrontation that could create a blood shared.
In his analysis and Lessons for Nigeria, Gen MF Babayo noted that ECOWAS, African Union, European Union, the United States and other Democratic government have strongly condemned the Coup and call on the Military to return to their Barracks.
The third Presentation was made by Professor Chuka Enuka, His presentation also features the Military Coup in Niger Republic: Call for Nigeria’s intervention. He examine the facts of the Niger Coup, pressure and calls on Nigeria to intervene, what is the interest of the West and why will Nigeria intervene in Niger.
Professor Chuka noted that on the strength of forgoing analysis we argue that military approach to the perceived challenge in Niger Republic is an unattractive option. In the present circumstances, it will be counterproductive. Among other things, it will emasculate Nigerian of its provisioning power for its citizen. With diplomatic approach, Nigeria will avert a likely uprising that wombs the possible of unseating the government of the day and also avoid that replication of the Niger experience.
