The Chief of South African Army (CSAA) Lt Gen Lindile Yam has express his satisfaction with Nigerians for their understanding of Democracy as a platform not for Idle talk.
Lt Gen Lindile Yam made this known during a working visit to the Nigerian Army Resource Centre (NARC) in Abuja. He commended the Nigerian Military for its pivotal roles in the history and existence of Nigeria as a national entity. The CSAA said, South African Army will draw lessons from the Nigerian Military in the areas of resolute, doggedness and discipline in the face of serious conflicts that bedeviled the nation in the North-East, Middle Belt and South South Geopolitical Zones of Nigeria.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Director General, NARC Major General Johnny Hamakim (rtd) informed the CSAA Lt Gen Lindile Yam that the Centre which was commissioned in August 2015 was established to serve as a Think – Tank on issues of defence and security for the Nigerian military in particular and the Country at large. He said NARC achieves its mandates through the provision of research – based solutions to the issues confronting the Nigerian state. He submitted that the contemporary security challenges confronting Nigeria and the rapidly changing nature of the threats makes it imperative for the Nigerian Army to have such a Think – Tank.
Gen Hamakim posited further that, the Centre organizes seminars, workshops, conferences and consultancy services. Others are: publication of journals, capacity building of NA personnel and other members of the Armed Forces and the sister security agencies in the country. He said consequent upon these; the NARC successfully hosted the International Seminar on Managing Asymmetric Security Challenges in the 21st Century in October last year with Twenty Four (24) Countries in attendance.
The DG later presented souvenirs to Lieutenant General Lindile Yam and his entourage and they were also conducted on a guided tour of the Nigerian Army Resource Centre Museum to acquaint them with a collection of the military artifacts and other objects of historical importance. Amongst the Senior Officers in his entourage were: the Defence Adviser to South African Embassy in Nigeria, Colonel Shakes Masakaba, Colonel M Nontshinga, Principal Staff Officers from Army Headquarters, officers, soldiers and civilian staff of Nigerian Army Resource Centre.
