Today’s edition of the Nigerian Army Resource Centre (NARC) Weekly Subject Experts’ Presentation was held at Hall A, TY Buratai Block, Abuja. Two presentations were made by the Subject Experts covering South East Asia and North America.
The first presentation was delivered by Brig Gen SN Eze Subject Expert on South East Asia. His presentation discussed the report that says “Malaysia thanks Cambodia for bringing back job scam victims” He said the
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim expressed appreciation to his Cambodian counterpart Hun Sen for his support in bringing back Malaysian victims of job scam syndicates in Cambodia. He noted PM Anwar was on a one-day official visit to Phnom Penh, Cambodia for a bilateral meeting with Mr Hun Sen.
While making analysis, he noted that International job scams use social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram to advertise high-paying jobs overseas. He mentioned some notable cases of Nigerians deported after falling victims to Job Scams amongst with includes 2,126 Nigerians repatriated from Libya from Oct – Nov 2017 by International Organization for Migration and 6 Nigerian drported from India amongst others.
He further said that Unemployment and Poverty have been identified as the main reasons for the increase in the crime which he also said have serious implications on National security. He also identified other menace of scammers in the labour market that has become one of the major challenges to the Human Resources profession in the country.
The second presentation was made by Brig Gen AA Adanogu Subject Expert on North America. The senior officer’s presentation amidst others headlines dwelled on the News report that says ” Mexican President blames broken family values for USA Opiond addiction crisis” He said President Lopez Obrados claimed that US family are to be blamed for the opiond crisis among people. He said that a powerfull synthetic opiond called Fyntanol trafficked by Maxican cartel has been blamed for about 70,000 US death every year.
While making analysis, Gen Adanogu argued that family is not a static institution, it therefore changes with the mark of time, and it is for this reason that the structure of the modern family is not the same as it was about century ago.
He said Nigeria had great respect for the sanctity of life. Adding that violation of human life in any way was considered the greatest crime anyone could commit. Other traditional values according to senior officer include, respect for elders, chastity among women folk, dignity of labour, patriotism to one’s community, courage and self-reliance.
He further acknowledged that westernization and modernizations infiltrated the family system and certain values have been virtually eroded. He noted some of the areas of Nigeria decayed values includes, cheating and falsification of age, excessive quest for materialism and the worship of money, un-patriotism, ethno-tribalistic sentiments and inclination, over dependency on foreign goods, products and services delivery examination malpractices and drug abuse amongst others.
He advocated for bonding Time for Families, Change in the Socialization of Children as well as Government and Non-Governmental Interventions as way forward.
Present at the briefing was Maj Gen KI Mukthar who represented the DG, Senior Research Fellows, Research Fellows, Consultants, Senior officers, and other staff of the Centre.
