Today’s edition of the Nigerian Army Resource Centre (NARC) Weekly Subject Experts’ Presentation was held at Hall C, TY Buratai Block, Abuja. There was one presentation made by the Subject Experts for the Middle East.
The only presentation for the day was presented by Maj Gen JG Mohammed Subject Expert for the Middle East. His presentation discussed Oman’s ministerial resolution for a standard specification for electric vehicles soon to be implemented. This resolution is to verify that companies manufacturing electric vehicles have applied the necessary technical regulations for the product
In his analysis and lessons for Nigeria, General Mohammed noted that Nigeria an oil-producing nation has an estimated population of 200 million with about 13 million vehicles. Also, Nigeria has a huge market meeting all standards, hence the need for a cautious and meticulous approach to the issue of switching over to the use of electric vehicles.
He stated that Migrating to electric vehicles and also Gas-powered vehicles will create a lot of opportunities as well as challenges for Nigeria. Crude oil production, its impact on Government Revenue, the questions of auto Repairs and Maintenance, challenges of lithium and cobalt mining, inadequate electricity, charging facilities, and environmental concerns were identified amongst others as areas that need to be critically examined before considering such adoption.
Present at the briefing was the Director General, Major General GA Wahab retired, Executive Director Consult, Senior Research Fellows, Research Fellows, Consultants, Senior officers, and other staff of the Centre.
