The Director General Nigerian Army Resource Center Maj Gen GA Wahab (Rtd) inaugurates Mental Health Resilience and Wellness Course (MHRWC) 4/2024 today 17 September 2024 at Hall F ML Agwai Block Nigerian Army Resource Center.
Following the high cost of living in the country due to soaring inflation and high exchange rate, mental health experts and advocates have warned that present situation is having a severe impact on anger, anxiety, stress and depression levels in the country. This persistent economic pressures highlighted by worsening living conditions are contributing to substantial increase of stressors faced by Nigerians especially with those fewer assets. The concomitant stressors and traumas being experienced by Nigerians could lead to mental and physical health problems, reduced quality of life, and decreased abilities to function in daily activities. Consequently, there is the need for employees and employers across the ministries, departments and agencies to receive hands-on training on mental health resilience and wellness.
It is in the light of the above that the Mental Health Resilience and Wellness Course (MHRWC) 4, a research-supported training program facilitated by the Nigerian Army Resource Centre, the Peace Building Development Consult and other stakeholders from the health sector seeks to discuss challenges to and factors that can enhance mental health and wellness of citizens in Nigeria. The programme brings together theory and practices from neurobiology, mental health care, critical care, trauma management, neuro trauma, rehabilitation, human security, conflict transformation and restorative justice to address the needs of mental disorder, trauma-impacted individuals and communities.
The occasion was graced by the Special Guest of Honour Dr TM Ojo, the Chairman, Dr Sadiq Abubakar Alhassan Director Medicals Department of State Services, facilitators among others.
