The Director General (DG) Nigerian Army Resource Centre (NARC) Major General Garba Ayodeji Wahab (Rtd) on Wednesday, 9 November 2022 inaugurated the participants of Leadership Skills Development Course 5/2022. The Inauguration ceremony took place at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre Conference Hall ‘B’ TY Buratai Block in Abuja.
In his inaugural lecture to the participants, the DG pointed out that , the course was designed for officers and soldiers of the Nigerian Army, specifically, to equip them to be able to face any condition and what it requires to relate with everybody when performing their duties. The DG noted that the Army in the past did not believe in critical thinking and emotional intelligence but the present Army believes in using intelligence to achieve it goals. He laid emphasis on the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) vision which is to have “A Professional Nigerian Army Ready to Accomplish Assigned Mission within a Joint Environment in Defence of Nigeria”. He also admonished the participants to use the leadership skills development course to be professional in their leadership style especially while dealing with their subordinates.
The Course Coordinator, Brig Gen Umar Aliyu in his welcome address, highlighted that the Course objectives among others was to observe leadership deficit within the middle cadre officers and soldiers of the Nigerian Army. The course was therefore aim at equipping the middle cadre officers and soldiers with leadership skills and fundamental principles especially, while operating as a leader in the crisis situation and in peace time. Major General Garba Wahab encouraged the participants to take the course serious as they are going to benefit from the course immensely from the knowledge and experiences from the cream of seasoned Resource Persons.
