The Nigerian Army Resource Centre (NARC) Abuja today held the Monday edition of the Weekly Subject Experts’ Briefing at Hall B, TY Buratai Block, NARC, Abuja. Presentations were made by four subject experts.
The first presentation was by Major General LF Abdullahi, Subject Expert on the Indian Sub-Continent and it was drawn from the headline “Taliban Closes Girls Schools, Hours After Reopening’’. In his analysis, Major General LF Abdullahi highlighted the importance of education, particularly, girl child education and sought to draw parallels with the educational situation in Nigeria particularly in the areas ravaged by banditry and terrorism. He made analysis and came up with lessons. He later suggested ways forward for Nigeria.
The second presentation of the day was by Brigadier General AA Adanogu, Subject Expert for the Middle East. This presentation was anchored on the headline ‘‘UAE does not Mix Business with Politics and Health’’. This presentation expressed the hard stance of the UAE government in ensuring that critical sectors are devoid of unpalatable considerations and unnecessary politicking. Brigadier General AA Adanogu contrasted this position with the current Nigerian status quo and proffered solutions and ways forward.
Brigadier General OD Donibo, Subject Expert for Central America was the next to present. His presentation was focused on Costa Rica with the headline; ‘‘Costa Rican Presidential Candidates Vow to Tackle Unemployment’’. In his analysis, Brigadier General OD Donibo identified the tricky situation Costa Ricans were faced with wherein the two presidential candidates had faced scandals and allegations in the past. He further highlighted how these candidates had centred their campaigns on the economy, particularly unemployment. Bearing in mind that Nigeria will be conducting it’s own General elections next year, discussions centred on similarities and the state of the Nigerian economy. He drew analysis and lessons for Nigeria as well as recommendations.
The final presentation was made by Major General AA Tarfa (Rtd), Subject Expert on Western Europe Including United Kingdom. His presentation focused on Germany with headline “Germany Diversifying its Energy Sources in Preparation for Russia to Turn Off the Taps “.
In this presentation, Major General AA Tarfa highlighted Germany’s reliance on Russia and its impacts. The dangers of the German reliance on Russia for energy were brought to fore and he made comparisons with nigeria’s near total reliance on one source for power generation. Robust discussions were had on the need to diversify as well as the implications of the current over-reliance on fossil fuels. He drew analysis and lessons for Nigeria and made recommendations too.
Present at the briefing were the Executive Director Consult, NARC Abuja, Major General JGK Myam, Director of Research, Professor CBN Ogbogbo and other management staff, Senior Research Fellows and Research Fellows, Consultants, senior officers, and other staff of the Centre.
