The Nigerian Army Resource Centre (NARC), Abuja today held the Wednesday edition of the Weekly Subject Experts’ Briefing at Hall B, TY Buratai Block, NARC, Abuja. Presentations were made by two subject experts.
The first presentation was made by Brigadier SN Eze, Subject Expert for the State of Israel and Islamic Republic of Iran. The presentation discussed housing challenges in Iran and Nigeria drawn from Iran’s plan to establish 40 new residential plans. Brigadier General Eze noted how dire the Nigerian housing situation is with estimates of a housing deficit of over 15 million houses. He noted that, houses currently being built do not help to address these issues as they are not purpose built while many are left unoccupied. In the course of the presentation and the discussions which followed, the lessons and recommendations on how to handle the housing challenge in Nigeria were evinced.
The second and final presentation was by Brigadier General CA Ovbude, Subject Expert on North Africa and Turkey. The presentation was based on the recent comments by a top shareholder in Turkey who asserted that approximately $8.6 Billion had been invested in the Istanbul Airport. The presentation highlighted the important economic value of airports and noted the recent efforts by the Nigerian government to improve the four major airports in the country. Challenges with construction and the current model of operation were highlighted, lessons and recommendations proferred.
Present at the briefing were the Director General, Major General GA Wahab (Rtd), Director of Research, Professor CBN Ogbogbo and other management staff, Senior Research Fellows and Research Fellows, Consultants, senior officers, and other staff of the Centre.
