The Nigerian Army Resource Centre (NARC) Weekly Subject Experts’ Presentation was held on Thursday, 1 December 2022 at Hall F, ML Agwai Block, NARC in Abuja with two presentations by the Subject Experts for the Indian Sub-Continent and the United States.
The first presentation was made by Brigadier General OD Donibo, Subject Expert for the Indian Sub-Continent. Brigadier General OD Donibo’s presentation discussed the recent launch of a satellite by India and Bhutan. The presentation noted the many benefits which the two nations stood to gain from the launch as well as the many other collaborations which had gone on between the two countries. He noted that despite the launch of the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASDRA) and the subsequent commissioning of satellites, Nigeria had failed to exploit these technologies to the benefit of the nation and to aid in combatting of insecurity. Thus, recommendations were made on how to improve the utility of Nigeria’s satellite and space technology.
The second presentation was made by Brigadier General AA Adanogu, Subject Expert for the United States. Brigadier General AA Adanogu’s presentation dwelt on the outbreak of the Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) and its impact on the American healthcare system. He noted that this disease was detrimental to children in particular and the recent increase in cases could be symbolic as the beginning of a possible pandemic. He also noted that this disease was not restricted to just the US as there are reported cases in Africa and even Nigeria although the extent of exposure is not well known. Consequently it was advised that further research needs to be carried out on the disease and its possible effects in Nigeria.
Present at the briefing were the Director of Research, Prof. CBN Ogbogbo, Senior Research Fellows, Directors, Subject Experts, Research Fellows, Consultants, senior officers both serving and retired, and other staff of the Centre.
