A Guest Speaker at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre (NARC), Monthly Lecture Series, Dr Richard Somiari has postulated that forensics can help to promote national security. He made this known on Thursday January 23, 2020 at the 12th Nigerian Army Resource Centre Lecture Series titled “FORENSICS AND NATIONAL SECURITY: POSSIBILITIES AND CHALLENGES “, held at NARC Conference Hall C, Abuja.
The Guest speaker further argued that forensics science and national security are correlated, hence, the need for Nigeria to possess economic, food, energy and environmental security to survive as a nation. He also said that economic advantage must have a value chain for the less privileged in the society. He however urged the government to enthrone equality of opportunity to all citizens and ensure an overall vision of a fair society with institutional justice system.

He concluded that the ultimate goal of forensic is to successfully prosecute the guilty and exonerate the innocent. He added that if this is applied professionally and impartially, forensics will have a positive effect on law enforcement, administration of justice and national security.
Speaking while declaring the lecture series closed, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lt Gen TY Buratai, who was represented by the Chief of Policy and Plans Army, (COPP) LT Gen LO Adeosun appreciated the Guest Speaker for a well delivered lecture and the Nigerian Army Resource Centre for their overall efforts towards the success of the Programme.
He noted that the Nigerian Army has been at the forefront of the security challenges confronting the nation and should be appreciated for doing their best within its pace and within the limited resources available for continuous efforts towards decimating the terrorists and the insurgents.
Additionally, the Executive Director NARC Consult, Maj Gen CO Udeh on behalf of DG NARC Maj Gen GA Wahab (Rtd) appreciated the COAS for his continuous support to the Centre, the Guest Speaker for a well delivered lecture and the participants for their presence.
It is pertinent to note that, Dr Richard Somiari is the Centre Director, Lagos State DNA and Forensics Centre, Lagos State Nigeria and the Adjunct Research Assistant Professor Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences, Bethesda, MD, USA amongst others.
