About
Brigadier General Umar Musa Aliyu was the pioneer Director, Directorate of Net Assessment and Future Plans, Nigerian Army Resource Centre. The Directorate was established on 8 September 2021 and its implementation commenced in January 2022. On completion of the implementation of the Directorate of Net Assessment and Future Plans, he was subsequently posted to be the pioneer Director, Nigerian Army Leadership Development Institute with effect from 28 March 2022. Aliyu was born on 30 November 1968 and hails from Hong town in Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State. He attended General Murtala Mohammed College, Yola, in Adamawa State and thereafter proceeded to University of Maiduguri in Nigeria, where he graduated with BSc (Hons) Geology. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant on completion of military cadet training at the prestigious Nigerian Defence Academy on 22 September 1990 and was posted to the Nigerian Army Armoured Corps. Subsequently, he earned three Master’s degrees in the course of professional military career development. These include Master’s Degree in International Affairs and Diplomacy (MIAD), from the famous Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in Nigeria, in 2006, followed by Master’s Degree in Conflict, Peace and Security (MCPS), from the prestigious Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC), in Accra – Ghana in 2012, and also Master’s Degree in Strategy and Development Studies (MSDS), from University of Professionals, Dhaka – Bangladesh in 2018. Furthermore, he earned the prestigious Harvard University Senior Executive in National and International Security Certificate in 2021.
Brig General Aliyu also attended several professional military courses and earned the following certificates. These include the Armed Forces Command and Staff College Certificate (for both the Senior and Junior Courses), Jaji – Nigeria and the National Defence Course Certificate, National Defence College Bangladesh, Mirpur-Dhaka in Bangladesh in 2018. Furthermore, he attended a Programme in Strategic Leadership, Defence Academy of the United Kingdom, Programme in Governance of National Security and Defence, Defence Academy of the United Kingdom, and a certificate course in Strategy for Command Responsibility Course (SCCR 9) at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru – Nigeria. Other courses includes the Senior Staff Course, Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji – Nigeria, the Armour Battalion Commander’s Course, Armoured Corps Centre and School, Bauchi, first Commanding Officer’s Workshop 2016, Stabilisation and Peace Support Operator’s Course British Military Assistance Training Team (BMATT), Dennison Barracks in the United Kingdom, the Disarmament, Demobilisation and Reintegration (DDR) Course, Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre, Accra – Ghana, Junior Staff Course, Armed Forces Command and Staff College Nigeria, Jaji and a certificate in Intensive French Language course from the prestigious Nigerian Army School of Education (NASE), Ilorin in Kwara State, Nigeria. The senior officer equally earned certificates in several other professional military courses.
Brigadier General Aliyu, is a resourceful professional senior military officer with over 30 years of meritorious military service career with wealth of knowledge, experience and wisdom in both command, staff and instructional capacities. The senior officer earned numerous military decorations and is blessed with sterling leadership qualities and vast experience in security, strategy, international affairs, diplomacy, negotiation skills and general administration. Furthermore, the senior officer was privileged to provide outstanding leadership to several teams comprising of people from diverse backgrounds, cultures, religions and nationalities, in joint environments, towards timely achievement of organizational goals/objectives and mission for peace, security and sustainable development of Humanity.
